Aiea Taiheiji Kendo Club

Founded in 1965 by Dr. Noboru Akagi, the Aiea Taiheiji Kendo Club is a longtime fixture at the Soto Mission of Aiea. Currently directed by Dr. Braxton Fukutomi, son of second head instructor, the late Arnold Fukutomi, the Kendo club attracts students from all over the island, for its rigorous and energetic practices and highly competitive environment.

In June 2017, the Waipahu Seibukan Kendo Club, under the guidance of Braxton’s mother, Cynthia Fukutomi, moved to the Soto Mission of Aiea. Now, the two clubs have joint sessions on:

Wednesday: 6:15pm – 8:00pm (All levels)

Saturday: 9:00am – 10:00am (Beginner’s class), 10:15am – 11:45am (All levels)

Costs:

Monthly club dues: $10/month

Yearly federation dues: $25/year for those under 18. $50/year for those 18 and over

Yearly discounted price: $100/year which covers all club and federation dues for the year.
