The Aiea Taiheiji Yagura Gumi was founded by Tommy Konomu Shishido in August 1962. The original group comprised of about 10 people, and quickly grew in popularity as they performed live Bon Dance music with singing, flute playing, and the booming beat of the taiko.
Today, the Aiea Taiheiji Yagura Gumi is very busy during the summer Bon season, performing at more than 12 Bon Dances and other events annually.
