Taiheiji is filled with visitors every year on January 1 for the New Year’s Blessing Service. This very special service begins at 9:00 a.m. During this blessing service, Rev. Shuji recites the Daihannya-Kyo (Great Wisdom Sutra), and prayers are made for everyone’s happiness, prosperity, and good health. Additionally, prayers are made for things like traffic safety, water safety at pool or beach, business prosperity, and the general well-being for everyone.
The ofuda packets consisting of blessing certificates made of wood and paper, as well as good luck charms and talismans for cars and wallets are blessed during the service and then distributed to everyone to take home.
